Sharon Sim is a Singapore-based visual artist whose practice is rooted in observation, memory and faith. She is drawn to the quiet poetry of everyday life — fleeting light, familiar places, landscapes, and the lives that inhabit them.

Her work often begins with sustained attention. Painting on site, returning to a remembered encounter, or working from a photograph, she is less interested in documenting a place precisely than in what remains after looking — an atmosphere, a particular quality of light, a presence, or the feeling of having been there.

Many of her subjects emerge from places and lives she encounters repeatedly. Neighbourhoods walked through, domestic spaces, changing light and the community cats she has rescued and cared for over the years become part of an ongoing record of proximity and care. Through painting, the familiar is looked at again — not as spectacle, but as something worthy of attention.

Faith forms a quiet thread through her practice. In works responding to scripture and contemplation, she explores hope, grace, vulnerability and the possibility of encountering the sacred within ordinary life.

Working across oil, acrylic, gouache and drawing media, Sharon moves between intimate studies and larger paintings. Her process is exploratory and painterly, allowing colour, gesture and material to shape how an encounter is remembered and retold.

Community Practice

Alongside her studio practice, Sharon is part of the core teams behind Art on the Hill and Syncroony Art, two community-led initiatives that create spaces for people to encounter and participate in art.

Through workshops, art-making sessions and collaborative projects, she helps conceptualise and facilitate experiences that encourage creative exploration, reflection and connection. This community practice runs alongside her own studio work, extending her interest in attentive looking and the everyday into shared experiences of making.
